2024 Summer Youth Internship

Please Submit:

  1. Letter of Intent: In a separate document, please describe why you are interested in being involved in the Edwardsville Arts Center (EAC), how your interest and skills can contribute to the mission of the EAC, how art fits into your life, any previous community service, and your aspirations for your future. 

  2. Artwork: Submit at least 3 images of your artwork as quality prints or high quality digital images. Digital images should be sent to director@edwardsvilleartscenter.com or mailed to 340 Montclaire Ave, Edwardsville IL 62025. 

  3. Resume: Include past/current jobs, volunteer positions, and skill sets. 

  4. Letters of Recommendation: Please provide 2  letters of recommendation. Letters from family members or friends will not be accepted. Letter should include the author's name, title, phone number, relationship to the applicant, length of relationship. Letters should be submitted from the author directly to the Edwardsville Arts Center, 340 Montclaire Avenue, Edwardsville IL 62025 or emailed to director@edwardsvilleartscenter.com.

JOB INFORMATION:

POSITION TYPE: Part Time

SCHEDULE: Part-time, Summer Seasonal. 10 hours per week, some evenings and weekends required.

WAGE: $14 an hour. Not to exceed $2,150 between the dates of May 15 - September 15, 2024

ELIGIBILITY: Current high school students and 2024 high school graduates. Minimum age requirement 14 (with

work permit)

The EAC is a community visual arts center dedicated to offering the St. Louis Metro East with cultural experiences through enriching art education, programming, and exhibitions. The EAC participates in community outreach events, art educational development programs for children and adults, the development and installation of art exhibitions at satellite galleries, and cultural events including a 3-day art fair.

Responsibilities: Student responsibilities will involve both artistic and administrative duties. These responsibilities may include:

Education – Assisting teachers and students with children’s art classes and outreach events, monitoring registration, maintaining classroom and outreach supplies, preparing projects, and assisting with studio and event clean up.

Art Fair – Mailing sponsorship packets, collecting donations for fair fundraising activities,  compiling artists packets and information, contacting entertainers and vendors and sharing information, and assisting with marketing efforts.

Additional duties – General space cleaning, data entry, general office duties, greeting guests, assisting in the logistics and physical move of the center to its interim space and other duties as assigned. 

Reporting: Students will work with the Executive Director, Director of Programs, Communication Assistant, and various art teachers. 

Location(s): Working locations will vary based on duties assigned, and may include the Montclaire Fire Station (340 Montclaire Ave, Edwardsville) or a local park. 

Key Skills: Students should possess the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment; have strong organizational, time management skills and the ability to multitask; have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with the public.

Student Benefits: Students will gain a multifaceted experience at the EAC including both administrative experience and hands-on artistic exposure in the classroom, event planning, and the daily tasks of a not-for-profit arts organization. The selected students will gain practical experience in the interaction with teaching artists, event planning, logistics of the organization’s relocation, and community outreach. Students will be exposed to email communications and departmental meetings and work closely with the EAC staff. These opportunities will engage the students' communication, organization, and executive functioning skills.
