  • Tools: Open Studio attendees may bring their own tools or use EAC’s tools. If using your own tools, please label them so they don’t accidentally get mixed up with ours.

CHILDREN ATTENDEES: Open Studio is intended for adults 18+. Children may attend Open Studio to finish a project or glaze work only when they missed an important class session that cannot be made up at another time.

Children under 16 must be supervised by a parent or caregiver at all times while attending Open Studio.

CLEANUP: Open Studio attendees are responsible for cleaning their workspace and returning tools and equipment to their proper locations before leaving.

STORAGE: Works in progress must be stored only in designated storage areas. Please do not leave work, tools, clay, or other materials in shared studio spaces. Bagged clay must be taken home at the end of each day, unless you have a dedicated shelf (Punch Card and Full Access Members).

Works in progress or bagged clay left on community Open Studio shelves will be discarded during the following studio clean-outs to keep the studio clean and available for everyone:

  • Last week of May

  • First week of September

  • Second week of January

Please move any work you want fired to the kiln room before these clean-out periods, or take it home with you.

Full Access Membership comes with a storage shelf for the duration of the membership; Punch Card users may also purchase a shelf for $20 monthly as available. Click below to purchase a shelf.

SUPPLIES: All Open Studio students must purchase clay from EAC. Clay is $25 per 25 lb. bag. Glaze and firing fees are charged separately.

PREREQUISITE: At least one 6-week ceramics classes at the EAC, or the equivalent at a different institution, or approval of the Ceramics Studio Technician.

ABOUT: Open Studio is a time for students and artists to work independently on self-guided projects and practice techniques they have learned in class. Instructor guidance is not available during Open Studio, so participants should be comfortable working independently and using the studio equipment safely.

FIRING: Please plan ahead - fired work typically has a 2–4 week turnaround. We cannot guarantee that work will be fired by a requested date, but you may complete a Firing Form (on the large cart in the kiln room) with your requested deadline and place it with your work on the cart.

When work is ready for firing:

  • Greenware should be placed on the large cart in the kiln room.

  • Glazed bisque-ware should be placed on the large cart in the kiln room.

Students will not receive an email when ceramic work has been fired. Please come to the studio or call to check on the status of your work.

At this time, firing services are available only to current EAC students and Open Studio attendees.
